Report on the Visit of the Education Minister to DPS International Ghana
The Education Minister of Ghana, Hon’ble Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh visited DPS International Ghana on Wednesday, the 20th of February 2019.
On his arrival, the Minister was welcomed ceremoniously by an indigenous Dance Performance of students and escorted to the auditorium by the Director of the school, Mr. Mukesh Thakwani, the Principal, Vice Principal and the senior students of the school. The Hon’ble Minister presided over the special assembly organized to honor him. The phenomenal profile of the Minister with the details of his exceptional academic and political career was a great source of inspiration for the students.
The Principal, Mr. David Raj presented the welcome address and said that the school was truly honored and blessed by the august presence of the Minister.
A few of the senior students of the school conducted the assembly on the topic, “Time and Tide Wait for None.” They emphasized the value of Time in their speeches.
The Minister also had the opportunity to address the gathering of the students as well as the teachers. He said that he was very impressed by the state-of-the-art infrastructure of the school and the quality of education that aims to groom all the students as all - rounder. He remarked that the performance of the children was excellent and added that DPS International Ghana, on the whole, exceeded his expectations.
The Minister also honored the National Spelling Champion 2019, Kwabena Darko Asare who happens to be the student of DPS International Ghana and the 2nd Runner –Up, Jeremy Baffour Agyei who is also the student of the same school. The students named Danielle, Raj Mukesh Thakwani and Akshaya who were placed among the top ten in the Vocabulary Round were also honored by the Minister with Gold Medals.
The First Runner-Up of the Shark Quiz Interschool Competition held on 31st January at TV3 Station was the team from DPS International Ghana and the school took advantage of the Minister’s presence to honor the members of the quiz team- Adam Korey Seidu, Shriman Jha, Jeet Thakwani and Nana Kweku. All the above students who have brought laurels to the school were also rewarded with gift hampers by the Director of the school.
The Director, Mr. Mukesh Thakwani expressed his gratitude to the Minister for spending his valuable time with the students of DPSI and said that it was one of the most memorable days in the annals of DPSI. Later, he told the journalists that his long cherished dream of bringing the Minister of Education of Ghana to his school since the inception (in September 2010) was fulfilled yesterday. He further added that Hon’ble Minister of Education, Dr. Mathew Opoku Prempeh who is well read and well informed and has won many accolades in his career is the right person to motivate the students of his school.
Also, Mr. Thakwani explained to students in his speech that time is really a big gift from God to us. We have to make sure to utilize our time judiciously.
He encouraged his students to see their parents as their best blessing and to always show their love and affection for them.
He also urged them to respect the Ghanaian culture which entreats the young ones to show respect to the elderly, and advised them to make priority lists daily to enable them to become more efficient.
According to him, the dream of the authorities of DPS International is to see that an alumni of DPS make a becoming the President of Ghana day one.
In conclusion, the Minister said that it was a pleasure to be in DPS International Ghana and he thanked the Director, the Principal and the whole team of teachers and students for inviting him to the school.
