Twelve delegates from DPSI Ghana attended The MUN Nations Conference at GIS, Accra from 31st Oct to 2nd Nov 2019.

Twelve delegates from DPS International Ghana attended The Model United Nations Conference at GIS, Accra from 31st Oct to 2nd Nov 2019.
The opening ceremony consisted of a welcome address by the Principal. It was followed by a talk by
Dr. Fatima Denton from UN University.  The talk revolved around attainment of United Nations
Sustainable Development Goals by 2030 and addressed issues such as stranded resources; conflict
over resources and illicit financial flows reducing proceeds towards government revenue which can
fund health and education amongst various concerns. Leaving no one behind was the key takeaway
from the talk.
The theme of the MUN conference was Sustainable Development Goal 16 – peace, justice and strong
institutions. The conference promoted SDG’s by avoiding the use of plastics such as use and throws
dishes, cups and bottles and replace them with reusable cutlery, water bottles and banana leaves.
Delegates from DPS International were part of committees such as SOCHUM, ECOFIN, UNEP, WHO
and General Assembly. The delegates dealt with issues like Venezuela crisis, human trafficking in
West Africa, Trade war between USA and China, transition to a common currency ECO in West
Africa, wildfires in Amazon Basin, whale hunting and strengthening health systems amongst others
Two participants were part of press corps.
The first day consisted of unmoderated caucus aimed at sorting countries into blocs and aid
drafting resolutions by delegates. The second day consisted of debate on resolutions by
delegates and social event in the evening consisting of games and barbeque. The third day
culminated with the closing ceremony with awards. The conference built the skills of
collaboration, debating, drafting resolutions, effective communication and  confidence in delegates.
Phoebe Laryea received an honorable mention in UNEP committee.
On the whole, it was an enriching experience for the delegates of DPS International, Ghana.
