23-11-2019 CLASS IX [I] Student Auronandan Kansara
On Saturday, 23rd November, 2019, Galaxy International School hosted an Open Chess Championship involving ten participants drawn from three different schools; five from DPs International School Tema, 3 from Preset Pacesetters, Madina and two from the host, Galaxy International School.
Both under 13 and under 18 played against each other but they were awarded separately.
10 chess players across the country participated in the event, which saw the finest of play exhibited on the chessboard, as Kings were checkmated with Queens and Pawns providing the cover.
Chess is an important game that helps to train the brain which can develop strategic thinking, improve memory, better functioning of brain and giving attention to details.
For the under 14 category, Raj Thakwani of DPSI won a gold medal.
Rohit Godhwani also of DPSI won a gold medal for the under 12 category.
They defied the odds and won the tournament in those categories, as they maneuvered their way from the preliminary rounds all the way to the finals, where they toppled all the contestants.
The competition was keenly contested with some of the strongest players in Ghana participating, but they were able to conquer their way through.
